The BT click buy Micro payment system offers various methods of charging visitors to view your website content. To setup a simple micropayment system you create a URL that you wish to charge your visitors to access, you then enter the URL into the BT click&buy system with a price and an access period. BT click&buy will then generate a new URL which the content partner will use to replace their original link to the chargeable page.End users must have opened a BT click&buy account to access the chargeable URL. When the end user clicks on the chargeable URL, a BT click&buy pop up will request registration or Log in. The user will then be presented with a further pop-up, which will confirm the price and the access period the content partner has set. Once the end user accepts the price and period and clicks on 'Buy Now', BT click&buy will deliver the content from the content partner's server to the end user's browser.
It's easy to keep track of how many people are visiting your content. Once you've logged on to BT click&buy, go straight to the 'Manage my Offer' section and you'll be able to see all the statistics on your content and services.
The minimum content price is 50p but after that, how much, or how little, you charge for your content and services is entirely up to you, and with BT click&buy Micropayments you can also set time access (i.e. 24 hours for £5.00, or one week for £20), and subscriptions.
BT do not publish rates for the provision of this service, they negotiate on a client by client basis, but 50/50 splits seem to be the norm for smaller companies we spoke to that were using this system to accept small online payments.
BT is a massive company and because of this your visitors will probably feel safer using this system to make payments, than say Paypal, and the fact that many UK TV programmes and newspapers are using the system means that they already have a large user base.
The high percentage of renenue thay BT take for running the service makes it unsuitable for selling tangible goods.
