Cannon i250 colour printerThe Cannon i250 is one of range of those £50 bargain printers. For £50 you may expect something, basic with few features. After testing the Cannon i250 I can say that it’s remarkably good value.
As part of the tests we printed a number of documents including black and white Word documents, bitmaps, photos and PowerPoint slides. The black and white print quality was very high for a DeskJet, although colour photos still leave a lot to be desired. This however is true of most DeskJet and most professional photographers will be sure to avoid this range of printers.
With a typical Hewlett Packard DeskJet printer you get a small software suite for maintenance. This would usually include head cleaning, alignment and very little else. Take this then add, light rendering, ink level warnings, document background options and watermarking then you begin to see what I mean about value for money. All these facilities are self explanatory and could be used easily by the basic home user. Perhaps the most impressive feature for a £50 printer has to the noise control software. A simple light switch icon that can cut the noise of your printer, this can be set permanently which defeats the object of choosing times when your printer is permitted to be noisy!!
Installation was extremely straightforward with USB connectivity. Don’t expect a free USB cable though. Windows 2000 and XP the drivers are bundled but even on Windows 98 SE set up was easy with the driver disk. Again ideal for the novice.
On the whole those looking for a reasonable quality home printer for non business use at a good price will not go far wrong with this model.
