Bought this camera about 2 months ago to replace my old Ixus 430 (4 mega pixel) basically because I wanted something smaller/lighter and wanted to stick with the same Canon colour balance and Canon software which I like, but with an increase in quality. Here's how the 2 cameras compare:- As you would expect, the 60 is noticeably smaller and lighter than the 430. I have attached a longer cord for hanging round my neck or it can easily slip into a pocket. Battery life of the 60 is a little less than the 430, but I still easily manage >100 pics per charge (plus a few video clips) and spare batteries are cheap and very small so not a problem to take one with you. Image quality is clearly an improvement on the 430 - I have taken the same scene with both cameras and you can see more detail with the 60 shots over the 430 shots when under close scrutiny on a PC monitor; however if you print your pics, as I do, at 7x5 size (or smaller), you will not notice a difference and note than pics taken on the 60 large/super-fine are about 2.8M in size compared to large/super-fine on the 430 at about 1.7M. The downloading of pics will thus take longer if you use the same USB2 card reader (which is something you might want to do as the USB2 connection cover on the 60 is very fiddly to open compared to the 430's USB1). Video choice and quality is a real step forward on the 60 - 640x480/30fps movies are possible, which look great but do use a lot of memory (1.8M/s); not so much a problem if you get a 1GB SD card, but all those clips soon eat up your hard disk! The 60 is more difficult to hold steady than the 430 for me (an average size adult). There is less to grip in the first place, the larger screen means there is less space for your thumb and the camera being lighter is more prone to shake anyway. I have got some blurred images, something I never had with my 430. The self timer on the 60 is great - you can specify how many photos to take - for example 3 pics taken once the timer expires; you then select the best one. Finally if you use 'stitch assist' for panoramas a lot (I do) you will find the 60 frustrating. There is no simple switch (like on the 430); instead you have to switch to manual, then via the main menu select stitch assist. It's the most irritating part of the camera for me! So in summary I give the Ixus 60 4.5 stars because whilst it's an improvement over the 430 in terms of size and image quality, it's not as user friendly; Pro's - small, light, picture quality, screen, videos, improved self-timer Con's - camera shake, panorama function, fiddly USB port coverSophie Maekin
