Canon PowerShot Pro1 Review

Canon PowerShot Pro1

PowerShot Pro1 Digital Camera

The Canon PowerShot Pro1 is the digital compact for serious photographers. It includes an 8.0 megapixel CCD, retractable 7x L-series zoom lens, hybrid AF system and Micro Ultrasonic Motor.
The PowerShot Pro1 has an 8.0 megapixel CCD for high-resolution printing up to A2. Its Canon 7x L-Series zoom lens (35mm equivalent: 28 - 200mm, f/2.4 - f/3.5) includes fluorite and UD elements to significantly reduce chromatic aberration. The Canon PowerShot Pro1 features a new hybrid AF system, which together with the Micro Ultrasonic Motor (USM) provides quick, quiet auto-focusing to ensure you don't miss that perfect shot.

The combination of Canon's unique iSAPS technology to optimize shooting settings, high-performance DIGIC processor for fast processing, together with Image Rendering technology for accurate reproduction of colors, ensures every shot is represented faithfully. Because every shot is different, Canon has made the PowerShot Pro1 incredibly versatile. There are 12 shooting modes - from Manual to Auto (including 2 custom settings), for greater creative control.

There's a choice of two color space formats - standard sRGB and Adobe RGB. With a choice of 3 compression rates and 5 resolutions, plus RAW mode for maximum image data recording, you have a total of 16 modes for increased recording flexibility. As well as total compatibility with the complete range of EX Speedlites, the PowerShot Pro1 has optional telephoto and close-up lenses for you to achieve any desired perspective.

The Canon PowerShot Pro 1 puts ergonomics to the fore - placing controls exactly where they should be. Its 2.0&~148; vari-angle LCD is bright, easy to read and tilts to just the position you want. The tough, black body fits comfortably in your hand, while a large grip lets you hold the camera steady as you compose your shots.

Your Comments/Opinions

Any one know which is better, this camera of the Canon EOS 300D. considering buying one of the two. Has any one used both of them and can give a honest review?

Had both cameras as Birthday gifts on same day. I only shoot in raw using fotoshop CS. After 3 mths trial, it must be said, at A3 size prints the canon Pro 1 was the better camera. As for handling and weight, don't forget you need extra lenses for the 300D, the Pro 1 came out tops. Both cameras are PHOTOGRAPHERS CAMERAS and need a lot of imput. But the end result is great pictures. Most of my fotografy is taken on a tripod, therefore I am able to use 50iso in the Pro 1 to good effect. The 28-200 zoom lens does it for me. And don't forgrt you never have to clean the camera innards. Good shooting-----Alf

Iv'e just opted to buy a Pro 1 rather than the EOS because of the economy of the Pro 1 zoom, compared to buying an Eos and then having to shell out another £400 for a comparable zoom. Admittedly though, for an expectation of higher quality results for the higher price.

HELLO EVERYONE ! THE CANON POWERSHOT PRO 1 IS SUCH A REMARKABLE DIGITAL CAMERA EVEN BY TODAY'S STANDARD . I JUST WONDER WHY CANON SEEMED TO HAVE STOPPED FIELDING A MUCH RECENT VERSION . THIS CAMERA PROMISES A LOT TO SERIOUS PHOTOGRAPHERS WHO DO NOT WANT THE BULK USUSALLY ASSOCIATED WITH DSLR KITS . THIS CAMERA CAN FURTHER SHINE IF CANON DECIDES TO PAIR ITS VERY GOOD LENS WITH A 35MM FULL-FRAME HIGH RESOLUTION CMOS SENSOR . DOES ANYBODY KNOW IF CANON HAS PLANS TO UPGRADE THE POWERSHOT PRO 1 ?
