Epson Perfection 3170photo USB 2.0 3200dpi Uk Review

Epson Perfection 3170photo USB 2.0 3200dpi Uk

Epsons Latest 3200dpi Scanner

Bought this in conjunction with an Epson R200 printer and I feel like I entered a new era. The slide/ transparency scanning is fast and thrillingly detailed. Scans from a 35mm transparency printed out at A4 show remarkable detail when scanned at 3200dpi. There is noticably darkening (vignetting??) in all four corners however. Not sure if this is common to all current model slide scanners.

In general, scanning at sensible day to day resolution (200/300 dpi) is very fast, and the colours are accurate. I switched from one of the little Canon LCD scanners and going back to a proper scanning device makes me wish I'd never bought the other one. It was cheap and ultraportable so it does have its place. If you scan a lot of stuff - prints or negs/slides - this beast will eat it alive.

Comes with Photoshop Elements which is good to have if you don't already have it. It has various buttons on the front and bundles of software stuff but for me, start up Epson Scan Manager and press "go". Scans to BMP, TIF, JPG, no problems there. Scans to file or straight into Photoshop or whatever. THere is also a copier program which scans and automatically prints to the output device of your choice. Claims to be for copying photos but it will work brilliantly as a general photocopier. Maybe a little slow for that since it scans at photo rez but in the absence of a photocopier it works for me.

In summary, a top piece of kit. If you don't scan 35mm stuff the lower rez version would probably be just as fine.

Ordered one and I am waiting! The waiting sucks! I hope that it comes soon. crayn4@aol.com
