' The Netgear SC101 installs itself as a local drive and takes the next letter available on the drive list. I have not worked out if you can change this yet. As some of the brief details on the unit you can find on the internet have indicated, the SC101 requires software installation to connect to your computers and for automatic back up. This makes it a little less elegant than the Linksys NSLU2 which is attached to your computer as a network drive and which controls backups from its management web pages. I have found that network setup and traffic significantly affect the speed of the NSLU2 I have. The SC101 does not seem to be as badly affected but that could be down to a duff network setup or even a faulty network switch. So far it seem to be a good value Network Attached Storage Unit (NAS) which costs less than the competing NSLU2.'steve_london
'Initially I though I had bought a "pup" with the SC101. I left it backing up overnight and it only managed to transfer 30GB in 24 hrs. Decided to change the Netgear supplied network cable and it now operates at an acceptable speed. It backed up 93GB in 4Hrs'dean_patrick
