Olympus Camedia C 5060 Review

Olympus Camedia C 5060

5.1mp Digital Camera

I've had one of these for four months and I love it. The build construction is superb, the magnesium body is far superior to the Canon G5 and really fits the hand well. Images are great, super macro mode is particularly good. Battery life is fantastic, although the Olympus batteries are horribly expensive, it is possible to buy 3rd party ones for les than £15. The only critisism I have is that the lens is a little slow (f4.5 I think) on full telephoto. You can adjust just about every feature of the exposure, sharpness, contrast, saturation, white balance etc.
In short, everything a photo enthusiast, who either can't afford a digital SLR or like me, is fed up with carting all that kit about, could wish for.

Your Comments/Opinions

I have owned one of these for over two years and I can honestly say it has produced some of the best results I have ever seen, however there is a question mark over the on/off switch which is susceptible to either dirt or corrosion and appears to be an achilles heel with Olympus cameras my XA and OM10 suffered from similar problems but I recently resorted to the use of WD40 to flush out the mode/on/off switch after the camera refused to work after being used during a downpoor, despite protecting it from the rain condensation formed under the filter and I thought the camera had died. It has now recovered to almost perfect working order. If anyone tries to clean in this manner remove the battery and take great care to protect the rest of the camera from the lubricant. H. Jackson
