'Seems to hog as many resources as the 2005 version of Norton Internet Security to me, my machine has been sooooo slow since i installed this.'

'My wife paid £74 for a two year upgrade of Norton 2005 to 2006. Following day, the internet wouldn't stay connected and I left for work. In the evening, the screen was covered with alerts that the computer had been attempting to send files out to unknown email addresses. CPU was working 100% and none of the software worked. We attempted to uninstall 2006 and reinstall 2005 but the Norton software now doesn't work. Previously found that on older computers, 2004 was too resource demanding and prevented the computers from working. Generally not impressed. '

'I have just spend the afternoon removing NIS2006 from a clients machine. NIS2006 is a resource hog, and it was preventing some software connecting to the internet, even though it had been configured to allow this software to connect. NIS2005 caused us a lot of problems and it looks like NIS2006 is going to do the same. Norton Anti-Virus used to be a very good product, but in recent years NIS seems to have been bundled with a lot of new PC's, and its USELESS! '

'Windows's Firewall is fine. I wouldn't bother with AV software simply because I have had many viruses through the years -- all while Norton AV was running! It cannot keep up, but it tries -- and that costs your resources. For example, it checks your outgoing e-mail -- that's protecting everyone else (not you who paid for it). It slows everything down. If you have a laptop and use dialup as well as WiFi clouds, the AV update burden along with the Windows update and the Adobe update and the rest.. all will eat up wahtever bandwidth you have. Forget it.'

'I am having MAJOR problems with NIS 2006. It won't let me automatically protect myself against threats. I click the " fix me" icon, and it appears to be fixing the problem, but it never does. This is the first time I have ever had problems with Norton and I am beginning to wonder if I should have switched to something else. I hate feeling like I wasted $50...but I am getting extremely frustrated that I can't even talk with tech support. If you call the company, you will be charged...so what am I supposed to do? Norton Internet Security 2006 is a really bad product. '

Bought NIS 2006 yesterday to replace my 2004 version which was continually prompting for a subscription update. Now I wish I hadn't...the installation became a 2 hour cycle of uninstall-download-reboot-install because of some stupid lack of support for an Instant Messenger client. And it still didn't work after that. And these are the same people who make Ghost and GoBack ?! Why should I trust any of their recovery tools if they can't get a simple AV install right ? McAfee for me, next time.

Norton (and McAfee) is worse than nothing. They both keep you from getting good products.
