Acer Ferrari 3000LMI Notebook XP 2500+Acer Thats the sound you get when booting this beaut (XP theme). And the speed references dont stop there... the cpu scales from 900mhz (normal use) to 1.8ghz when required. On mine the memory is only 266mhz rather than the 333mhz advertised, which is a slight downer. The thing runs hot after about 10 minutes of hard use like cd burning or other hard disk intensive activities.. with the left end of the palm wrest warming. The underside gets very hot where the memory panel is situated, which worries me a bit.
On the bright side of things I found that the wifi is excellent, finding networks in the car in Leicester city is easy and the signal good. The screen is very bright, colourful, and sharp with no dead pixels. Battery during normal use stretches to about 2:10 hours, or down to 1:30 while burning dvd's. The dvd burner itself is great, ripping from a dvd at up to 5.5x (twice advertised) and writing at similar speeds max. The laptop runs silently when the fans are off (frequently) and only a slight noise when on.
Overal the performance is good, with desktop programs running with plenty of spare memory, and always with enough cpu power behind it. Games run fine, with Call of duty running smoothly at all times on high-max details (70fps+ in multiplayer). Not the best graphics card however for more demanding games like NFS: U on high details, as it can struggle.
To round it off the box is nice, and it comes complete with a custom built ferrari laser mouse. For features and design alone it gets 10 out of 10.
Only one weird thing is it dosent have a PS2 input...But it is supplied with a USB mouse, optical and red... Brilliant.
Would advise getting the accidental cover which can be bought seperate..You will want to keep it in good nick!.
