BlackBerry 8110 Pearl Red

RIM

BlackBerry 8110 Pearl RedThe Prosumer BlackBerry 8110 Pearl Red is packed with incredible features, including a camera, multi-media player and built-in GPS receiver for satellite navigation. To make use of the full-featured satellite navigation application, which is free for the first 12 months, you will need BIS email subscription.

The BlackBerry 8110 Pearl is a Quadband phone, without integrated WIFI.  The feature list of the 8110 contains nothing to get excited about. This is an entry level blackberry, easy to configure email device. It seems to me that RIM are getting a left behind in the smartphone market, these days all phones handle email adequatley and I can't really see any reason to choose this blackberry over another handset. I have been a blackberry user for over 3 years, and there seem have been few development in that time. Yes it has a camera, which is pathetic compared to the cameras on other manufacturers handsets. It also has built in GPS, which is never going to be as good as my in car GPS.

RIM Claim a battery life of 4 and half hours but I would say that my brand new 8110 gives about 2.5 hours on a full battery. I charge my pearl overnight every day and I also need to give it a top up charge at lunchtime. I find the battery life disappointing, it is nowhere near as good as my 2 year old nokia E61 which was doing the same job as the BB 8110.

The Blackberry Storm is going to have to a pretty impressive phone if RIM are to retain therre share of the UK smartphone market.
