This low-priced baby delivers many times more than its price suggests. I have it 6 months now, printing thousands of pages of documents. Reliability, solid performance and with a minor "tweak" of the ink cartridge, my Lexmark has become my personal office machine. I've had exactly the same problem as Sandra - the paper feed pulls down stronger on one side than the other. Result? Having to spend 20 minutes with each page of glossy A4 cutting the nice square bit out of the middle of the diamond-shaped image! What a bad buy this printer was!

I am about to receive my third replacement machine from the company. After a few months, when changing a colour cartridge, they refuse to print colour again. I waste ink, paper and time running cleaning cycles and the test cycles they send me before being told it is being replaced, again. They won't give a different model or a refund. I am expected to dispose of the old one from them, too. No more Lexmark for me. And by the way, the machines are cheap because they make their money on the cartridges, which it eats.

'I've had my X1180 for a few months now, and for the price it has been an excellent home machine. Print/scan/photocopy for the price of a single function printer is great value, but obviously it will not be as tough as a more expensive machine. If you push it too hard, it will disappoint. The cartridges are very expensive, and this is clearly where Lexmark claw back some of the money. Cheapest I have found are at www.printconsumables.com. Make sure you get the 16 and 26 cartridges, rather than 17 and 27, which are lower price, but only partially filled. I've tried filling my own cartridges with a kit, but the results have been poor. The buttons on the top are (top-left to bottom-right) paper feed, scan, colour copy, b/w copy. '

'If you buy a LexMark or Dell printer(they are made by LexMark) do yourself a favor and buy several cases of ink at the same time. This will save you time and gas money running to the store every week. LexMark (or Dell) sell you the printers real cheap to get you on their ink cartridge bandwagon. I needed a fax machine and the LexMark X7170 all-in-one looked like a good deal until I found out how fast it goes through ink cartridges! At first I just thought their ink level guage was inaccurate but it wasn't. I have an Epson at home and use an HP at work and I get about five times as much out of them as I do this P.O.S. LexMark. I also have a Dell printer that they gave me for "free" with the purchase of a new computer and it goes through ink cartridges like crazy also. I didn't realize it at the time but it too is a LexMark product. On one of my routine trips to buy ink (this time at Best Buy) the sales person told me that they never recommend LexMark printers because they are tired of being chewed out buy other angry LexMark owners.'

I've suffered the same problem with the drivers for the Lexmark X1180 I've downloaded the 23mb file from Lexmark and gone to install it only for the install to say it can't find a file and then fail. This's one of the most useless driver downloads I've ever found and it came direct from the manufacturor! My advice....don't loose the CD like I did....infact....just don't buy a Lexmark all in one.

Hi, its a great printer but you really need to choose any 'photo' paper you use with care... and of course its cheap due to the cost of the cartridges, lexmark seem to have taken a leaf out of the car manufacturers handbook and gone for making the cost of manufacture back via the consumables... In response to the comments about the printer pulling more on one side than the other, mine did start to do this but on the first occaision after i pulled the pencil out that had fallen in :-) it started working perfectly again, the second occaision was down to a small piece of paper that had ripped of a document and stuck to the feed wheel... again, once removed the printer worked fine.

You get what you pay for and the lexmark x1180 is a peice of crap ....paper always pulls down at one side ...ink cartrages never seem to work for long ( genuine ones )....you press the clean cartrage button a few times and your ink is finished. I will never buy lexmark again ..Total *** !!

Meggy i quite agree with you, crap is the word or shite if u like, my piggin' black ink runs out quickly and then i can't print anything in shite colour because the colour won't work if the black has ran out!!!! Incidently the paper feed system is also a pile of elephant turd although once a problrm regarding this was rectified by the removal of a 'Cheerio' inside the feeding rollers. I certainly won't be buying Lexmark again.

Lexmark 1180 is absolute garbage. Like many others have said the printer is cheap but boy do you pay for it in ink cartridges which either don't last two minutes or dry up and then do not work if you have not used the printer for a few weeks. The thing is going in the skip!

well my Lexmark X1180 has finally decided to not work, 'out of paper message' even though i've got paper coming out of my ears. comparing my problems after reading all you guys problems are virtually the same. It wont print, it wont feed the paper through as it pulls the paper uneven and scrunches up the paper the jams. Yes they are cheap enough to buy BUT THE INK IS EXPENSIVE, i do a lot of printing so a 17 ink cartridge lasts me about a month. Like someone else on here i thought why not try an ink kit and would you believe it unless i printed on BEST ink quality i was printing out blank pages. it really makes me wonder if lexmark made these printers so that unless you use the official ink it wont print,nice of them to put the customer before their own profit margin.... Another gripe i've got exactly like someone else on here if the colour cartridge runs out then it effects the quality when just using plain only black ink (isn't that another ploy to buy more ink). Looks like i'll be going out to buy another printer, this one lasted hassle free for nearly 3 years. Lastly i never got a guide book with my printer but customer services said i could download it from their website (another cheap tactic to same them money).

My Lexmark 1185 has worked awesome for two years, but the last year it has been pulling paper to the side on its way through. Today, it finally started having alot of trouble pulling the paper through. After reading these comments, I realized that it does go through alot of ink. I stopped using color right from the start and have had to manually scan since the beginning as well. I'll be purchasing a more expensive printer later this month.
