I had been looking for a lightweight laptop for a while, and after good advice decided to go for one of the Sony Vaio S series. After much deliberation I decided on the Sony Vaio VGN S1XP - the top model of the series.
The main reason I bought my Sony Vaio VGN S1XP was to have a laptop that was lightweight but functional for travel. A lot of laptops seem to come with endless drives etc that need to be attached, not the Vaio - although not having a floppy drive may be seen as a disadvantage at first you soon realise that you rarely would need one - a USB memory pen is as good to transfer files from machine to machine.
The Sony Vaio VGN S1XP measure:s 224.8mm x 29.9mm x 312.5 and only weighs 1.9 kg (including battery).
Whilst at near enough £1,800 it is at the upper end of the market I do believe its really good value when you look at the build quality and features.
I have had my Sony Vaio VGN S1XP for 2 months now and can really not find fault with it at all - no problems at all; the keyboard and touch pad are excellent, the best I have ever come across on any laptop. The Sony patented XBlack display gives a high quality display and better than a lot of flat screen monitors.
The Sony Vaio VGN S1XP is a very smart laptop and I have received comments about its cool appearance where ever I have taken it.
